God's Banner of Love ❤️

"He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love."Song of Solomon 2:4
Since I was a young girl, I have always enjoyed painting banners for others—celebrating birthdays, welcoming babies, or marking any joyful occasion. Recently, while painting a banner for a special friend, I was reminded of this beautiful verse from Song of Solomon:
"His banner over me was love."
In biblical times, a banner was much more than a piece of cloth waving in the wind. A banner identified who you belonged to, where you were gathered, and what you stood for. It was a visible declaration of allegiance and purpose.
When Moses led the Israelites to victory over the Amalekites, he built an altar and called it Jehovah Nissi, which means, "The Lord Is My Banner." (Exodus 17:15) Moses understood that the victory had not been won through human strength, but through God's presence and power.
Throughout history, banners have been carried into battle, displayed over homes and churches, raised on football fields, and lifted as symbols of allegiance.
Jesus also gave us a banner by which His followers would be recognized. He said,
"By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35) ❤️
Love became the identifying banner of Christ's followers—not success, not status, not power—but love.
As I taped my friend's banner to her front door, I reflected on her beautiful life of loving others. It reminded me that God's love is meant to be seen, not only in what we say, but in how we live each day.
This week, let's take a moment to ask ourselves:
What banner hangs over my life?
Is God's love evident in my words and in my actions?
Let's choose to walk beneath God's banner of love every day. ❤️
