"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.”  James 1:2–4.
I love this scripture because it begins with the words “brothers and sisters.” It reminds us that all believers are part of God’s family. We are not walking through life alone. We belong to one another in Christ.
But at first glance, this verse can feel almost impossible… right?
Joy?
In trials?
In waiting rooms?
In unexpected health diagnoses?
In misunderstandings… or closed doors?
Yet James doesn’t say feel joy.
He says consider it joy.

Have you ever thought about that word consider? It actually means to choose.
To decide with intention.
Trials come in many forms. Some are loud and public. Others are quiet and deeply private. Regardless of what they look like, they often shake our hearts.
But this scripture reminds us that every trial can carry a hidden purpose.

James goes on to explain that the testing of our faith produces perseverance, and perseverance produces maturity. In other words, something is being formed in us through the process.
When we consider it joy, we are not celebrating the hardship itself. We are trusting the Healer through the hardship.
Pure joy isn’t shallow happiness that depends on our circumstances. It is a steady confidence, knowing that God is at work even when we cannot see it.
Scripture reminds us that hope in Christ never disappoints. And often our faith deepens through testing.
So this week, let’s pause for a moment and reflect.
How might God be inviting us to depend on Him more deeply?
How is God inviting us to trust Him more in this season?
Sometimes the very trials that stretch our faith are the same moments God uses to draw us closer to Him.
And that is where true joy begins. 💖🙏
